Great Foodsaver
Just bought a Foodsaver 8640 and it works perfectly with the bags 11 inches wide, but will not vacuum bags 8 inches …?
When you use bags of 8 inches wide (I tried to do mine roller and using pre-made bags Foodsaver) there is still a lot of air in the bag. He starts the vacuum pump, then almost immediately think it's done and wants to start sealing it. I know it's not the vacuum pump b / c it works very well with 11 inch bags, and yes I checked to ensure that the seals and upper detection tray are clean. Any tips?
The "… tried to make my own from a roll …" This is probably the why it does not work properly, especially if you are sure the joints are properly. What I suspect is that the "house-Brew" equipment bag for your "own" is different [do not have dimples or ridges that the store-bought bag material does] and the machine sucks the air off up "front", but the bag from collapsing plucked away, seals itself and prevents air from being more withdrawn. Most sealers vacuum only work with their brand of bag material.
